CWC takes back 5 orphans from Vellore children's home

CHENNAI: Five abandoned children were rescued from a children's home called Sisu Bhavan in Velloreon Monday three days after their illegal adoptions came to be known. The district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials have sent the children to child care homes in Vellore and Chennai. 

Of the five, four are female children and three have special needs. "Sisu Bhavan is not licensed to keep abandoned children in their custody," R Chezhian, a member of the investigation team told the Times of India. The five children who were abandoned atChristian Medical College were transferred to Sisu Bhavan of Vellore. Two other abandoned children were illegally adopted from the hospital by staff. These two children will also be rescued soon, CWC officials said. 

According to CWC officials, two children have been transferred to a home in Tirupattur. The two children with special needs have been sent to Chennai, and one has been admitted to CMC for treatment. "We are sending them to government-recognized homes for temporary custody; We will decide on our next move based on what the district magistrate tells us," Chezhian said. 

The Times of India carried an article on April 30 that Christian Medical College, Vellore, flouted rules and arranged for adoption and transfer of abandoned children to an unlicensed home. The district social welfare officer P Gomathy summoned hospital officials and staff of the children's home. Interrogations revealed that the children were not transferred as per the norms. 

"We have not received any document from the hospital that indicates they had obtained clearance from the police for the adoptions," a CWC official said. "They have not maintained documents as per government norms," officials said. 

CWC officials said that they are waiting for directions from the court to interrogate the foster parents of the two other children who were adopted by hospital staff. The foster parents may be in Tirupattur and Vellore, a CWC official said. 

"The Juvenile Justice Act does not have the power to punish the offenders. We can only investigate the case and refer to the court for police action," a CWC officials replied when asked about why there has been a delay in fililng a First Information Report against the hospital and home.

Judgment Day Now Rescheduled for October 21, Says Harold Camping

Don’t you just hate when you predict the end of the world and get the dates mixed up?

That’s what happened to poor Harold Camping, the 89-year-old leader of the Christian fundamentalist network Family Radio Worldwide, when he predicted the world would end on May 21st, a date that has now come and gone.

The radio host made his first appearance Monday night after the apocalypse failed to come to fruition, and stated, “The first question is ‘Camping, what about you? Are you ready to shoot yourself or go on a booze trip or whatever?’”

Apparently not, because Camping made an oopsie! It seems that the rapture Camping spent millions promoting, and the earthquake he predicted would take place, actually did happen— just not in a physical way.

After praying all night on Saturday, the answer came to him. You see, Camping had been “looking at the Bible too earthly… when the Bible is a very spiritual book.” He then stated, “We were convinced that on May 21, God would return in a very physical way by bringing in an earthquake and ushering the final five months of judgement. When we look at it spiritually, we find that he did come.”

Oh, wait, he did come? Just not in a way that any of us can see, hear, or feel? Gee, why didn’t we think of that!

“We have not made a mistake insofar as the timeline,” Camping said. “We’re not going to pass out any more tracts. We’re not going to put up any more billboards— in fact they’re coming down right now… The world has been warned. The world is under judgment… We’re just learning we have to look at all of this more spiritual [sic]. But it won’t be spiritual on October 21.”

Ah, I see, God is spiritually judging us for the next five months. And then on October 21st he’ll come out of hiding and smite us all!

October 21 will be the End of the World

It was all a dream, I used to read Word of Christ Magazine.  Judgement Day predictions come and go without incident all the time, and many are less than surprised that the May 21 2011 Rapture prediction was another “miscalculation.”  Family Radio in Oakland duped us all into believing that our Savior would once again return to Earth, this time for the Apocalypse.  I had my doubts, but went for it full force in a show of faith – right?  That’s the basis of religion – faith.

The days leading up to “May 21 Judgement Day” were exciting, nerve-wracking, and a bit blissful at times.  The word of Harold Camping’s predictions spread like wildfire, while the doubters came out in large numbers to denounce the May 21 Judgement Day prophecy.  Atheists and many Christians stood together for once, in a show that they did not think that Jesus would return on May 21 2011.  It was somewhat like a dream during the 72 hours before the official Judgement Day time, but once again, I’m awake.

KOCHI, Jun 14 (Times of India): The fear of proselytization by Christian missionaries has gripped the southern most state Kerala yet again. Three US women tourists were asked to leave the country following complaints that they along with the local pastors were trying to convert "poor families" to Christianity in the coastal area of Alappuzha district in Kerala. 
However, the state police said that the three tourists were asked to quit because they had violated the tourist visa rules by trying to attend organized group activities and meetings. The Circle Inspector (CI) of Police J Santhoshkumar who is investigating the case told the TOI that the three women - Shelly Louise Deeds (50) a nurse in Pennsylvania, her daughter Katelyn Heather Deeds (15) and Diane Gean Harrington, a teacher at Wisconsin had arrived here about 15 days ago, and their tourist visas were valid till November this year.

However, the activists of some Hindu organisations complained to the police that the three were trying to convert the poor people by offering them material inducements. ``They were targeting the poor families in the coastal area and were trying to convert them with several offers. The area had significant Hindu and Muslim population while only some recent converts were part of the Christian community. The pastors and foreigners were trying to influence the local people through the new converts. They had visited several houses in the area and conducted prayer sessions,'' RSS Taluk office-bearer Raghu said.The proposed prayer sessions by the local pastors and the tourists created a commotion in the area and the right-wing Hindu organizations threatened to launch a protest.

``We have not received any evidence to indicate the three US women were engaged in conversion-related activities. However, they were about to attend religious prayers session. They have come on visit visas and the law of the land doesn't permit them to attend any organized meeting or group activities including the prayer sessions. We were not clear about their intentions.That is why we asked them to leave the country, and they agreed. There is no deportation involved. They are now waiting for their return tickets,'' the district SP Asok Kumar said.

The police sources said they are gathering the details of the activities of the three pastors Sabu (47), Jacob (34) and James (45) from Kottayam district. The police said the US Embassy India had also been informed about the incident.
