Twenty-two years after a former branch manager cheated Bank of India of `15 lakh, a special court here has sentenced the official and his accomplice to three years RI along with a fine of `10 lakh.

According to the prosecution, the anti-corruption branch of CBI, Chennai had registered a case in 1997 against R Krishnamurthy , branch manager of Bank of India, Purasawalkam branch, T K Subramanian, P V SeIvaraman, K V S Prakash, M ESampath, M Ramiah and K Loganathan on the basis of a complaint that in 1993 the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the bank.

Krishnamurthy , by abusing his official position, sanctioned an export credit and packing credit loan of `15 lakh to Subramanian, who was introduced to the bank by SeIvaraman. K Venkatasamy sentenced Krishnamurthy and Sampath. Prakash, however, was acquitted.
