Hyderabad: After the CBI filed chargesheets against Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday, speculation is rife about whether and when he would be arrested. Jagan, aware of such a possibility, has found a novel way to evade arrest. He has been on an Odarpu Yatra for the past one year.Officially,it is a thanksgiving rally for people who had come to offer condolences after his fathers death. In reality,it is a political rally for which he has been travelling across Andhra Pradesh for the last one year. Due to the yatra,Jagan is always surrounded by a large number of supporters who have been detailed to prevent his arrest. The CBI had made three attempts to arrest him,but failed, sources told TOI. No leader in the country has toured the districts so long. The reason for this prolonged Odarpu Yatra is nothing but a ploy to avoid arrest, a CBI source said. After the chargesheet was filed on Saturday,Jagans managers rushed more supporters to Guntur in the Andhra region where he is travelling currently. They were instructed to form a bigger ring around Jagan, said sources in the Jagan camp.Next week,Jagan and his entourage will move to West Godavari district as part of the yatra. Sources said CBI officers tried to arrest Jagan in Hyderabad in January when he was going for a private function.Jagan got to know about it and changed his schedule suddenly.Again on March 4,CBI planned to arrest him at Shamshabad aiport. Then, too,Jagan got wind and cancelled his tour. Two days ago,top CBI officers decided to arrest Jagan in Guntur. However, the sleuths realized his arrest could spark grave trouble and the plan was scrapped. CBI joint director V V Laxminarayana said,This is only a preliminary chargesheet. There are many more to come.We will act as the case progresses.
NOOSE TIGHTENING: Jaganmohan Reddy during Odarpu Yatra in Guntur on Saturday
A ll the alleged illegalities happened between 2004 and 2009,when both YSR and Jagan were loyal Congressmen. Jagan achieved this by circumventing the laid down guidelines by using the influence and office of his father late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the CBI alleged. The CBI also charged Jagan of dishonestly concealing facts regarding the profitability and turnover of his company, soliciting investments at high premium from three companies -- Aurobindo Pharma,Trident Life Sciences and Hetero Drugs.APIIC MD B P Acharya allotted 75 acres of land each at the Jadcherla SEZ to Aurobindo Pharma and Hetero Drugs and transferred 33 acres of land at export promotion industrial park at Pashamylaram to Trident Life Sciences as part of the criminal conspiracy. Apart from Jagan, who is accused number one in the case, those named in the chargesheet were his associates including his close aide Vijay Sai Reddy, three government officials, including Acharya, who is already in jail in the Emaar case and representatives of the three pharmaceutical companies involved. So far, only Vijay Sai Reddy has been arrested. In the column against Jagan, the chargesheet states said Not Arrested.CBI SP H Venkatesh, who filed the chargesheet in the special court on Saturday, refused to comment on whether Jagan would be arrested anytime soon. The FIR filed in the Jagan case in August had named 70 companies and individuals.
Hyderabad campuses of Microsoft,Infy,Wipro come under a cloud

Hyderabad: In a decision that jeopardizes land allocated to corporates and institutions such as Microsoft,Wipro,Infosys,Emaar,Indian School of Business and Lanco, the Andhra Pradesh high court on Tuesday refused to entertain petitions that challenged the power of the state wakf board to notify 1,650 acres of in Manikonda village of Ranga Reddy district as wakf land. The court asked the companies to approach the tribunal on wakf disputes to challenge the boards decision. It also refused to vacate the injunction order given by the wakf tribunal earlier, which restrained the private companies from any land transaction in this respect. Some companies, including Lanco and Emaar, have been using this land for real estate business. The division bench, comprising Justice V V S Rao and Justice Reddy Kantha Rao,delivered its judgment on a batch of petitions, some of which challenged the states decision to allot wakf land to private companies and some, including the state governments, which challenged the wakf boards decision to notify the area as wakf land. The companies are likely to approach the Supreme Court, contending that land was given to them by the government.
Petitioners have been arguing land was given to these companies at prices much lower than those prevailing in the market and want the companies to cough up a fair value to the wakf board. Among the companies allotted land in Manikonda are Emaar Properties (550 acres),ISB (260 acres),Lanco Hills Technology Park Pvt Ltd (100 acres),Microsoft (54 acres),Infosys (50 acres),Wipro (30 acres) and Polaris (7 acres). The AP Wakf Board as well as the Muslim community hailed the decision of the high court. The contention of the state and the private companies is that according to a notification issued in 1989,the wakf board owns only 5,500 square yards in the form of a dargah at Manikonda. However, according to them,on April 6,2006,the board notified an area of 1,650 acres around the dargah as land attached to the shrine and declared the entire area wakf property. The state government contended this was illegal and beyond the powers of the board. Moreover the Manikonda jagir lands vested with the state as the state had paid the commutation amount. The AP government had invited companies to invest and given legal documentation for the land.In good faith many companies invested millions of dollars. This ruling puts a big question mark over future investments in Andhra Pradesh even as those who have invested will be very worried, said Bipinchandra Pendyala, secretary general of the IT and ITeS Industry Association of AP.TNN

Hyderabad: A senior IPS officer who was heading an investigation into Andhra Pradeshs politically-connected liquor lobby was transferred out suddenly amid talk that his probe was coming uncomfortable close to several powerful people in the state. K Srinivas Reddy was relieved on Friday as head of the Special Investigation Team probing the illicit liquor trade and asked to take over as inspector-general of coastal security by Monday. The officer was scheduled to submit a status report on the liquor probe to the AP high court on April 16. Talking about a possible political motive behind his transfer, without referring to any particular person,Reddy said the very nature of SITs probe was prone to political meddling and there was nothing unusual about it. He said that the probe into liquor syndicates had been a challenging task as it involved investigating the activities of several government officials and politicians. There are about 100 syndicates in the state and with our limited manpower,we started investigating into a few big ones like the Vizianagaram syndicate and dons like Balaraj Goud. The probe is very tough as it involves rich and influential people. In fact,we arrested an ACB official for tampering with records and several more such officers are under scrutiny, Reddy said. Meanwhile, looking at the fate of their boss, several inspectors and DSPs who were part of the investigation, said they werent sure of continuing the probe. Due to the liquor probe,we have made several enemies in the police and other government departments too.Looking at the fate of our senior officer, now all of us are naturally worried. The going will be tough for us as several officials might be looking for revenge, said an ACB inspector. Even Reddys boss,DG D Bhoobathi Babu wrote to the home department for a review of the transfer order. In response to Babus letter, chief secretary Pankaj Dwivedi replied that the government understood the concerns, but added the transfer was a must as the officer had been promoted and assigned another important task.
