Converted as Christian long back but don’t follow any religion now: Ranjith

Pa. Ranjith, director of superstar Rajinikanth’s latest colossal hit film Kabali, has been replying to many controversies about the film on various platforms. The young film-maker, who got to direct Rajini in only his third film as a director, has said that though he converted to Christianity several years back, he doesn’t believe in God and doesn’t follow any religion.

Speaking to a regional monthly magazine, Ranjith said that right from his younger days, he wanted to be a director. “I used to read directors’ interviews with great interest and visualize myself in their places to assume what would be my reply to questions hurled at me. I used to write many stories and poems in my younger days. I was made to convert to Christianity in those days not entirely out of my will.

“As per my record, I’m a Dalit (SC); my father and uncle were Christians. After converting to Christianity, I was very religious for some years. Later, I lost interest in everything and now remains a person sans any religious affiliation. I don’t believe in the existence of God as I came out of the barriers of caste and religion,” Ranjith explains.
