Police have traced a 19-year-old MBBS student who enacted a kidnap drama along with one of his friends to extort money from his doctor parents to buy an Audi car.
Dr E Riyasuddin and his wife Dr Waheeda Rahman, of West Tambaram received a call on Wednesday . The caller claimed their son Ajmal Aslam, a student of Sree Ba aji Medical College in Chromepet, had been kidnapped and demanded `1.5 crore as ransom.
Aslam's parents lodged a complaint with the Chromepet police. Inquiries revealed that he had not attended classes for 10 days.What raised suspicion of po ice was that the caller told Ajmal was kidnapped from his college.
Police also found that the ransom call came from the mobile phone of Aslam's riend Halik. Checking the call details of Halik's number, police traced the duo to Ramanathapuram.
A police team from Chromepet went to Ramanathap uram and nabbed the two students from their hideout.Preliminary investigations revealed they had enacted the kidnap drama to extract money from Aslam's parents to buy an Audi car. They initially went to Bengalurufrom where they made the call demanding ransom.
Since Aslam's parents approached police, they decided to move to Ramanathapuram to avoid getting caught.
Police found the friends exchanged calls frequently .
The duo will be brought to Chennai on Friday . “We are yet to get the exact reason behind the kidnap drama and people involved in it,“ said an investigating officer.
