Dalal Street bulls back Modi in hope of revival

Partha Sinha TNN

Mumbai: BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has found support on Dalal Street as well. After five years of policy paralysis and corruption scandals during the tenure of UPA-II,the sensex is ranged around the 19k mark amid a slowing economy.
With investors mostly out of the money in all but a handful of stocks,D-Street bulls have decided to support the man credited with bringing prosperity to Gujarat,a state from where most of the brokers come from. The trading community feels Modi is in tune with their imagination of better politics leading to better economy and markets.
Most of the brokers and traders come from Gujarat and the neighbouring Rajasthan. They have seen prosperity first hand. They are also the ones who are willing to take more risks than people from other states. So even if supporting Modi seems like a risky proposition, they are willing to do that, said a Street veteran.
According to Deven Choksey,MD,K R Choksey Shares & Securities, the market has been more or less in a dry spell in the last five years as the economy has slowed because of the incorrect policies of the government.Manufacturing, agriculture, services all the sectors badly want growth. With Modi promising to bring in the Gujarat model,I think he has a good chance, Choksey said.
Marketmen pointed out that its probably the first time the business and the broking communities have come out openly in support of a candidate from an opposition party. There are three reasons why Dalal Street wants Modi to become the PM, said Arun Kejriwal, director,KRIS.First,he has been able to instill faith among people about his ability to lead with speed.Second, people believe he can give us a clean administration ... And they believe in Modis vision.
Being a Gujarati,Modi can speak the language brokers and traders associate with.According to the head of a retail broking house, recently Modi was the chief guest at a function in Ahmedabad.During his speech, the connect between him and us was instant And the best thing that struck me was this man can execute his plan and also talk about it in a way that can sway peoples minds, the broking house head said.said.

Social media could hold key to victory in 12 seats

C D S Mani TNN

Chennai: Tamil Nadu has at least 12 Lok Sabha seats where social media has been assessed to have a high impact on the new generation voters. With 44 lakh additional voters on the electoral rolls in the state since the 2011 assembly polls, many of them being first-time voters, political parties have their task cut out to penetrate this vote bank. The state chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar has reportedly said at least 16.7 lakh of these new voters are in the 18-19 age group.
The Facebook generation is expected to be the game-changers in Coimbatore,Salem,Tirunelveli,Erode,Madurai,Villupuram,Virudhunagar,Kancheepuram and Sivaganga besides Chennai North,South and Central.
The number of social media users in these constituencies exceeds the winning margin of candidates in the last LS elections and account for more than 15% of the voting population. This is the assessment of a nationwide survey of Lok Sabha constituencies conducted by the Mumbai-based independent research organization Iris Knowledge Foundation early this year.
Vellore,Kanyakumari,Cuddalore,Trichy and Karur are the five medium impact constituencies identified in the survey. The low impact constituencies are Thanjavur,Dindigul,Tuticorin,Namakkal and Theni.
Keen to target the new generation voters, the Congress kicked off social media training for its cadres on April 14,synchronising it with the start of the Tamil New Year.We have taken this survey seriously, said party volunteer G Vijay. The AICC,which has identified 161 such constituencies in the country with significant social media penetration, has deputed a six-member IT team,hand-picked by Rahul Gandhi, for training cadres in 14 urban hubs in the country, including Chennai, said Vijay.
The BJP too is preparing for the cyber war.For the Lok Sabha poll campaign, all parties will have to hone their social media skills, both to counter rivals in cyber space as well as to catch the pulse of the firsttime voters, said BJP leader P Alagappan. Our state president Pon Radhakrishnan is leading the cadres to learn social media skills, he said. However, the party has not embarked on any systematic social media training programme in the state.Tamil Nadu-based parties, including the ruling AIADMK,the DMK,the DMDK,the MDMK,the PMK and the VCK,now have their IT cells in place to impart social media skills.

An answer to Sankarshan Thakur's criticism of Modi

The Telegraph has published an article on Narendra Modi by Sankarshan Thakur titled "@#&**#*?N*%!* *Liar, illiterate, divisive, fraudulent, fascist and unfit to be Prime Minister: Hell hath no fury like a Nitish mocked.

The article had an infographic (shown on the left in the image below). It was completely inaccurate (as shown on the right in the image below).

Why Modi Critics Need A Comprehension Guru

Here are the details:

Sickular claim #:

Modi said "Takshila was in Bihar"

The Truth:

Narendra Modi did not say that "Takshila is in Bihar"! Watch the following video (@6:30) or read the transcript

This is the relevant portion:
("If we talk about the age of knowledge, we remember Nalanda and Takshshila.")
Nalanda was in Bihar. Takshashila was located at the other corner, but it's unimaginable to mention one and not mention the other. A look at the Google queries, for example -

Sickular claim #2: Modi said "Alexander was defeated on the banks of the Ganga by the Biharis"

The Truth: Modi did not say "Alexander was defeated on the banks of the Ganga by Biharis". He quoted a poem the last line of which said "He [Alexander] drowned in the Ganges" (see YouTube video @35:40). The poem symbolically referred to Alexander's retreat when he heard that the army of the Nanda Empire (whose capital Pataliputra is the present-day Patna) was waiting for him on the other side of the Ganges.

Here is a description of how Alexander had to retreat because of the Magadha army - From the Greek historian Plutarch's The Parallel Lives:

"...they [the Macedonian soldiers] violently opposed Alexander when he insisted on crossing the river Ganges also, the width of which, as they learned, was thirty-two furlongs, its depth a hundred fathoms, while its banks on the further side were covered with multitudes of men-at-arms and horsemen and elephants. For they were told that the kings of the Ganderites and Praesii were awaiting them with eighty thousand horsemen, two hundred thousand footmen, eight thousand chariots, and six thousand fighting elephants. And there was no boasting in these reports. For Androcottus [Chandragupta], who reigned there not long afterwards, made a present to Seleucus of five hundred elephants, and with an army of six hundred thousand men overran and subdued all India. At first, then, Alexander shut himself up in his tent from displeasure and wrath and lay there, feeling no gratitude for what he had already achieved unless he should cross the Ganges, nay, counting retreat a confession of defeat. But his friends gave him fitting consolation, and his soldiers crowded about his door and besought him with loud cries and wailing, until at last he relented and began to break camp, resorting to many deceitful and fallacious devices for the enhancement of his fame."

Sickular claim #3: Modi said "Chandragupta Maurya belonged to the Gupta dynasty. His rule was the golden era of India."

The Truth: Modi did not say "Maurya" at all! (See YouTube video @5:35 or read the transcript)

("If we remember the Gupta dynasty, the politics of Chandragupta inspire us")

He was talking about Chandragupta II, who became an emperor after marrying into the royal family of Vaishali and whose capital was Pataliputra during his initial reign (he later shifted the capital to Ujjain after defeating the Shakas).

This point is a glaring example of the intellectually dishonesty of the "sickular" brigade and its supporter media. Modi did not even mention the word "Maurya". Nitish Kumar, Sankarshan Thakur and others added it on their own, and then made a "rebuttal" to this point!

So, basically, Nitish Kumar invented all these inaccuracies, and then he made a "rebuttal" to these alleged inaccuracies! Digvijay Singh, certain journalists like Sankarshan Thakur and other sickulars are publicizing these mistakes as that of Modi, although these are not even present in his speech!

What does this mean? Are these people...

  1. so lazy that they did not even listen to Modi's speech before criticizing it
  2. so incompetent that they do not have any comprehension skills?
  3. Fekus?

Take your pick.

Sickular claim #4:Modi said "Nehru did not attend Sardar Patel's funeral."

The Truth: Modi's Uadipur speech is available online - it does not have any such statement. The newspaper Divya Bhaskar has clarified that it wrongly attributed the statement about Sardar Patel's funeral to Modi.

Sickular claim #5: "fascist... Hitler... Goebbels..."

The Truth: This point is not even worth a retort. Congress fanboys bring "Hitler" into every conversation about Modi (see Godwin's Law). Do they realize that it was Stefan Maino (Sonia ji's papa) who fought for Hitler's Wehrmacht in the World War II?

Ill-read critics of Modi using lies to belittle him

Ill-read critics of Modi using lies to belittle him

“Narendra Modi is not a very particularly well-educated and well-read man. The kind of depth and reading that we used to take for granted in big leaders – which Manmohan Singh certainly has – is frankly not evident in Modi.” Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor to Economic Times.

“RSS and BJP must give Modi lessons in Indian history…” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Twitter.

“Narendra Modi got his facts and strategy wrong in making the Patna speech.” Nitish Kumar’s biographer and friend Arun Sinha.

“Very educated man with a keen knowledge of history…what is one to say of such a learned man?” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

It seems as if every political leader of the Congress and its newfound ally, the JD (U), has become a historian in the aftermath of Narendra Modi’s historic Hunkaar Rally on October 27 in Patna. With Modi offering the people a future that the JD (U) cannot even dream of giving, they are left with only one thing – distorting Modi’s words.

What has followed is a juvenile attempt to corner Modi on things he never said. If we thought Arjun Singh was the worst when it came to history re-writing, think again… it has got a lot worse now!

As an avid reader of history, I feel compelled to correct the juvenile lies spread by the Congress and JD (U) leaders who are doing so just to score political points.

Allegation 1: Modi described Chandragupta Maurya as a member of the Gupta dynasty

Shashi Tharoor tells the Economic Times that Modi does not know the difference between the Gupta and Maurya dynasties. What his statement reveals is not Modi’s so-called ignorance of history but Tharoor’s own sense of comprehension which has deteriorated rapidly ever since he joined the party of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi whom he liberally criticised in his previous works.

Let us hear what Modi actually said:

“If we remember the Gupta Empire, we remember King Chandra Gupta”

hqdefault.jpg

As the video shows, Modi categorically said, “When we remember the Gupta dynasty, the politics of Chandragupta inspires us.” Ignorant but educated intellectuals like Shashi Tharoor should know that there were not one but three famous Chandraguptas in ancient Indian history – one in the Maurya dynasty and two in the Gupta dynasty.

The Chandragupta that Modi talked about is clearly Chandragupta II or Chandragupta Vikramaditya (son of Samudragupta and the grandson of Chandragupta I) under whom the Gupta age flourished.

So, who does not know history? ‘Educated’ Tharoor or ‘not well educated and well read’ Modi?

Allegation 2: Taxila is in Bihar, said Modi

Considering Rahul Gandhi tells the world Gujarat is bigger than Britain and India is bigger than the USA and Europe put together, his party has some gall to correct leaders who speak the truth.

The following is Modi’s reference to Taxila:

“If we remember the Gyan Yug, we are reminded of Nalanda”

hqdefault.jpg

Modi clearly said that when we remember the Gyan Yuga we remember Nalanda and Taxila. Is it not a fact that both Nalanda and Taxila are almost thought of together, much like someone saying ‘When we think of British education we think of Oxbridge.’ Does anyone say Oxford or Cambridge? No. It is always Oxford and Cambridge.

It is my challenge to anyone to prove Modi said Taxila is in Bihar.

Allegation 3: Modi brought Alexander to Bihar and killed him on Ganga

We must give Nitish Kumar a prize in fiction-writing for coming up with this bizarre interpretation of history.

First of all, Modi never killed Alexander in his speech. Second, he never said Alexander came to Bihar because had he said that, he would have contradicted what he eventually went on to say.

While talking about the glory of Bihar, Modi implied that such was the greatness of Bihar that its rulers had the might to halt a conqueror like Alexander. To illustrate that he narrated lines from a poem that said Alexander drowned in Ganga. Let me also point out that this is not a poem that Modi wrote, so the words were clearly someone else’s.

Additionally, the reference to Ganga was symbolic. It conveyed the message of how the mighty Nanda Empire, whose capital was on the banks of Ganga, scared Alexander away. To add a bit of geography, if you are headed to Patna from the north-western provinces, Pataliputra will obviously be on the other side of Ganga.

Will Shashi Tharoor dare refute that the Nanda dynasty was ruling in Pataliputra when Alexander defeated Porus?

Will Arun Sinha deny that despite defeating Porus, Alexander’s army refused to move further ahead fearing the Nanda rulers, thus making them retreat?

When they too know the truth, one wonders what wrong did Modi say?

Allegation 4: Modi made Nehru absent from Patel’s funeral

It is funny when those who had forgotten Patel all these years suddenly remember him only to counter Modi.

From the middle of nowhere, it emerged that Narendra Modi said Nehru was absent from Sardar Patel’s funeral! This claim collapsed like a pack of cards when the daily to which Modi was supposed to have made this claim released a clarification that Modi had said no such thing.

Ill-read critics of Modi using lies to belittle him

Why is the Congress dragging historical figures into its fight against Modi?

Extraordinary allegation: Modi was sweating profusely during ‘Hunkaar Rally’.

Wow! I am amazed at how keenly Nitish Kumar was watching Narendra Modi during the rally. Why not tell us how many litres of water did you drink, Nitish Kumar?

Nitish Kumar has colleagues who say it is alright for soldiers to die. He himself prefers to be silent when innocent children are killed during mid-day meals, but Modi is not like him. He is a compassionate human being and not insensitive to what is happening around him.

Modi knew of the blasts that had happened but what was shocking, as a State DGP later said, was that more blasts were expected. Instead of taking remedial action, here was the DGP saying there would be more damage! Modi was never bothered about himself. It was very easy for him to cancel the rally and go home but can you imagine what would have happened at Gandhi Maidan? How many lives would be lost?

Despite the blasts Modi came, spoke and appealed to the mammoth crowd to disperse peacefully. And that is what happened. As for his sweating, compassionate and sensitive people with a heart and who care for people would naturally sweat if something like this were to happen.

These days it is in vogue to compare Modi to Hitler. If it was Nitish Kumar yesterday, it is Jairam Ramesh today and there will be someone else tomorrow; that’s how the concoctions remain in circulation. Ironically, it is the Congress and its friends who are following every word of Goebbels, so much that Goebbels himself would have had to learn from the Congress and its new friends.

[The writer is Shivraj Singh, former national secretary of JD (U). He exposed the fallacies and hypocrisies in the communal-secular stand of the JD (U)]
